About Passionate Work
What we are called to do, we must do.
Teaching is a calling, and I have felt called to this profession since I was a small child. Perhaps it was the impact that my teachers had upon me, or maybe it was the fact that I always liked helping other people and I was usually helpful in bridging communication gaps.
I have often heard it said that people engage in the arts "because they have to," and this is how I feel about performing arts (theatre, music and dance); and education. The passion at the heart of the creative process is the reason that artists are so immersed in what they are doing.
I have always felt that active learning and collaboration are best for learning. Even the most individual task requires the input of information and opinions from others when engaging in the artistic creative process. This collaborative "give and take" allows students a chance to engage in the process of sharing ideas and solving problems together to reach a common goal.
In this increasingly global world, students in the performing arts have a distinct edge over other students due to the rigors that their artistic passions demand.
Performing artists must be...
To summarize, performing artists have all the skills needed to be successful in any career path, along with a whole host of other talents.
